Definition of a Football Manager Wonderkids - How to find them?

A Football Manager wonderkid is a term often used to describe the best talents of Football Manager 2014. These young talents under the age of 20, have all in common that they possess excellent potential ability, good current ability and equal chance to develop to world class players.

A players level of ability is determined through a rating between 0 to 200, where 200 is "out of this world" in order to show you through a star rating how good the player is in the moment (current ability) and how good the player can become in the future by training, tutoring and match experience (potential ability). Normally is the current ability absolute (static current ability) while the potential ability is relative - can differ from save to save.

A Football Manager wonderkid is exclusive and unique, not every player can become a wonder kid. When starting a new Football Manager save, you will perhaps notice that the wonderkid you bought in one save might not be as good in the new. This is because a players potential ability can change within a pre-determined scale. His actual potential ability can only be discovered within the editor or other cheating tools. The relative PA scale ranges from -1 to 10 where higher number equals better ability. Normally will the best Football Manager wonderkids have a potential ability labelled as -10 or -9, where -10 is on a scale close to the 200 mark.

We are not allowed to reveal each players current or potential ability level, so you will be forced to scout them all in each save in order to get some hints about their potential ability in your save. I guess you wonder how you can find the best wonderkids in your save. There are some important areas to look at:

FM14 Player Profile Wonderkid

- scout report and player description - Golden Star rating and Wonderkid description
- scout report of player attributes; determination, work rate and level of mental attributes
- scout report of current ability according to age; 4 to 5 star silver star rating or 1 to 2 golden stars
- a players personality and potential to progress based on your clubs youth facility level

These are some of the elements you can look at in order to find promising talents with the potential to become wonderkids. Just remember that you don't get solely blind by star rating as it depends on your scouts level of determination and accuracy, and also the squad depth of your managing team. A club with few (or none) world class players will make you able to spot more 5-star wonderkids than if managing Barcelona, where the PA star rating will perhaps be fairly good.

How to find the best scouts in Football Manager - Get more accurate scout reports

You might experience that some of the players in our shortlist is very close to become wonderkids. This means that how you train your talents will be one of the tools in order to develop them into wonder kids. Some of the best wonderkids are already good enough to get important playing time for the first team of any club, or can become world class players quickly either by transferring to a club with better youth facilities, to a manager who favours youth development and trust him with match experience, or simply because of the pre-determined CA and PA level provided by the researchers of Sports Interactive. No matter the level of players potential ability, they will also require a little luck in order to become wonderkids by staying injured free.

Their development will also be influenced by your coaching staff team, their professionalism and mentalities in coaching. Finding the best Football Manager coaches and having a 5-star coaching team is always important.

Our ultimate list of best Football Manager 2014 Wonderkids makes you able to spot the new Lionel Messi, the next Marco Reus or players who can become similar to Robin van Persie within the official Football Manager 2014 database. Our comprehensive shortlist is filtered by position, age and star rating sorted from world class player potential to national. By providing screenshots of player profiles, their best player role and more information about the player can you find FM14 Wonderkids and talents which suit your playing style and tactics.

On 1 June 2012 the prosecutor requested to ban Cassano for 5 years due to involvement in 2011–12 Italian football scandal. It was suspected that the match AlbinoLeffe–Piacenza on 20 December 2010,Atalanta–Piacenza on 19 March 2011 were fixed.[7] Eventually FIGC announced to ban him for 5 years on 18 June 2012.[8]

hey, im inteested in the fm2013 shouts article. can you make it available as im not interested in fm2014 articles yet. i started to play fm2013 some months ago and im starting a second save to try to use what ive learn through first save and some articles i read, including yours. even if most of them are things i deduced quickly after seeing options in the game, i liked for example your insight about how to generate spaces according to your pre-set shouts and i could use it a little to develop my own strategies in that level.

  13. Sorry, What do you try to say?

    ReplyDelete
  14. What team did you use to scout these?? some of them are coming up as lower than you say. Also, forgive me if im wrong, but i think you missed out Serge Gnabry (Arsenal/Germany)- 5* with arsenal

    ReplyDelete
  15. These players have been scouted with Juventus - as written in the article - the star rating on the right side is only our star recommendation - the work on this list was started in the FM14 beta so some players may have the wrong star rating in the profile image because of a bug with star rating - all profile images will be updated - Serge Gnabry is on the list above and also in the U18 Best young talents shortlist - http://www.mypassion4footballmanager.com/2012/09/football-manager-2013-wonderkids.html and the Wonderkids shortlist

hello. surprised you're using the fm13 version but he receives the ball to feet, partly so he can win a little time for other players to get into position. he will receive through balls as well so don't worry about that ;)

Here are two Screenshots. It shows my scout in Western Africa stuck in Nigeria for the last 80 days (was a restart on the assignment when he had Nigeria and Ghana fully scouted, how I know he hasn't budged). As soon as he loses some knowledge in either country he will improve, but never move onto another country in West Africa. The other is from Oceania.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Rather weird behaviour. These are major countries though with alot of people, but it might come down to level of discipline, as he dont understand to work effective enough

I been using attacking movement for ten games with the scheduling at 30% and I won the first five games in the league and then it started getting worse and worse and I lost a few matches and had some draws. Maybe they got to much training at attacking movement? Should I try lower the scheduling or should I try another focus? My style of playing is to play attacking and possession football and I want to play like this regardless of the opponent, so what do you recommend me to do?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey,

I would advice you to first go back to the match you lost - why did you loose? Poor defensive positioning, you got overload or dominated possession / created lots of chances but just unlucky?

One loss often leads to decreased morale - aka quickly leads to a bad run

How is your tactical familiarity? Perhaps setting the focus to tactics is needed.

Match training should be set according to opposition when tactical familiarity is 100% It will give your side a boost in that area - facing another attacking team may force you to change to defensive positioning if your team is more defensive weaker than the opponent

Good man, was doing ok but got slaughtered by City 4-2 in fa cup, was 4 nil down lol do u alter it if your away or against really good teams?im being threatened with the sack but my team is full of wonderkids, really hope it dont happen.not sure if the match engine messes up tactics to be honest

    ReplyDelete
  24. It should work for 14.3 - could you try to verify game cache on Steam, and then make sure to add it to the custom databases when game launch.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Paul09:50

Sorry to be a dummy but how do I verify the game cache on Steam?

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's no such thing like a dumb question or anything=)

    1. In order to verify gaming cache (which restores the game to its default - aka inc-file must be deleted afterwards in order to get the real name fix), you must enter the gaming library on Steam

    2. Right Click - Football Manager 2014 - choose preferences
    3. Locate - Local files - Choose Verify Gaming cache

Your Preferences will not be affected by this

well, what team are you? do you get good results otherwise? do you create chances? yes the ME has some flaws when it comes to defending, but those won't be correcred unitl next FM. the most obvious one is fullbacks being unaware of player runs from deep and central defenders pushing way too far out of their zones

Warning:couldnot process rule group settings in C:\Users\Paul\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2014\editor data\English Level 11 database.xml English County Leagues Division 1 has the wrong division level set, should be 10.

I load up the database in the editor and change the above to 10 and test the rules.

'Level 11 leagues has wrong division level set, should be 11'. - changed that.

'English FA Cup - Too many teams(24) requested from English Southern League Premier Division (23 teams)'. - changed to 23 teams.

'English FA Cup - Total number of teams entered for this competition (1007) is different to number of teams set in the cup (1008)'. - changed to 1007.

Now is the point where I can't change anything.

FA Cup - Number of teams in competition now automatically adjusts itself to 256 every time you try to change it.

  29. as this database is made by one of the mods of the FB group FMNutters I will need to ask him, hear what he has done - perhaps the latest update fixes it (updated 7th of March)

The only thing I can see from your reply is that the error message only concerns level 10/11 - you should have level 12 also if you have updated to the 14.3 version

I just have to pull some strings here - thanks for your feedback

    ReplyDelete
  30. Paul12:10

Have downloaded level 12 version and that gives me the same problems.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I just tried the database on my computer and no errors here. Could you try to start a save with only the English Level 12 database ticked?
could be an error between two different databases used - both downloaded and imported from Steam Workshop - if you've used it

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have got some feedback that there is one club who have been deleted by Sports Interactive in the 14.3 database in the lower leagues of England.

If you still got problem with English Level 12 database on 14.3 I would recommend to use the 14.0 (default database) - match engine fixes are still improved such as in 14.3

    ReplyDelete
  33. Paul09:10

I've fixed the problem. What I did was add Hinckley United (now defunct as of October 2013) back in to Southern League Premier Division and everything is now fine.

    Thanks for all the advice!!!

  34. Great that it worked when added the team back in again. Seems like you got great knowledge of how to use the editor and how it works=)

Just like to mention that we are looking for one person who can work with the editor and create both databases and updates for Football Manager 2014 and its future versions, so if you ever should've be slightly interested - please contact us=)

Quite simply the best tactic I've ever used on this game. I was on an eleven game win less run with Portsmouth in league one and ever since I applied this tactic, I haven't lost a game. Instant results and sublime football. Think I've played 15 games with this new tactic and as mentioned no signs of losing any time soon. Willing to post a picture of my fixture list as proof.

2)i have the same problem the scouts just dont go to all the countries, i'm playing fm from 00/01 and i consider scouting really important, saved me many times in the past, but now it doesn't working the way it supposed to work, all my scouts are top scouts and i will bring you the same example i have one in north america for a year and a half, and he hasn't been to canada at all he's stats are

Hey! I have only played the demo for now, and my full game is in the mail, so I'm only warming up, but seems like an awesome tactic. I could never make 3 defs work well.. and I still didn't because I just loaded the Cobra as it is :) But it has been great both offensively and defensively. I have a question: There isn't a plethora of great ML/MR players to be found. Do you think this tactic will work with WBL+WBR or AML+AMR? Or what about something a bit more unbalanced like ML+AMR or even WBL+AMR?

  53. Daniel Hubner10:14

i didn't experiment with dragging the wingers around. i rarely struggle to find players for that position ;) most wingers can play ML/MR and most fullbacks/wingbacks can be retrained. the point is that as long as they have good work rate(12/13+) they should work in that position. The defensive stats are only a good bonus, what you really need is just a player who has the capacity to work up and down the pitch. so pace, stamina, crossing, dribbling, work rate are most important imo

Thank you for your time and effort that was put into this, the only problem I have is sadly, the Regional Prem playoffs, where if you are in the Isthmian league playoffs, you can get drawn with anyone else in the playoffs from the Southern League and Northern League, this could potentially play havoc with the relegation system, where theoretically all of the Isthmian teams could win the semi, and 3 win the final, meaning they all get promoted, then will be put into unsuitable league, and also mean that teams that should be going up a division, will not be going up. Anything that can be done to solve this?

As u mention for the cobra tactic to work it is important to do player man marking on opp wingers/full back, how do u do specific man marking on opponent? in the past there used to be under the tab make substitution whereby we can man mark players?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Daniel Hubner11:47

Hey there. To specifically mark on this years version you go to player instructions when you have your pre-match screen. from there you can select the player instrucions of your wingers and the specific marking tab should appear there.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Keith Oh12:26

Still didn't see the marking tab on the pre match player instruction screen. Its the same instruction as b4. Where's the specific marking tab

    ReplyDelete
  63. Keith Oh14:06

Got it. Thanks. I find this tactic useful for most matches. But against elite opponents it is found wanting. Against chelsea my team cant deal with hazard at all. He will get at least 2 assists and better teams exploit the gungho approach. Bayern also exploited the flanks. My team is fully fluid and set to man mark opposing wingers. How do u deal with this? I tried switching to defensive mode and with defensive wingers but to no success.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Keith Oh18:17

managed to do it. how do u play against elite team away from home? the same tactic with with attacking mentality with winger on attack duty? i find that my team struggle against genuine world class wingers (hazard, robben etc) i tired switching to standard or defensive mentality with wingers on supporting duties or defensive wingers but my team still struggle, often losing to elite team away from home. how do u counter this?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Daniel Hubner09:20

i don't really ever change the approach. i always use the same. you'd struggle against world class wingers in any tactic i guess :P but in my hertha berlin test i was doing good against bayern or borussia. beat bayern 5-0 in a cup semi or something like that.

i haven't tested anything with different approach to the matches. i find that the tactic is pretty flexible, if you don't win possession you sit deep and counter and vice versa

    ReplyDelete
  66. Daniel Hubner17:27

well, i don't really know what to tell you. i do well in tough matches with this tactic because it's good at soaking up pressure and launching quick attacks. i might have less then 40% some matches, but get 3+ CCC while they just shoot from range because there are no other options :)

  68. Chip Thompson16:13

I'm liking this tactic. Leaks a few goals but that could be my defence. I was fighting relegation last season (finished 14th, 9pts above the drop) and this is how it's going 10 games into the next season http://imgur.com/a/zKJwU

    ReplyDelete
  69. Chip Thompson19:03

Liking this tactic, although I seem to leak a lot of goals (could just be my defence). I kept Burnely in the Prem last season, finish 14th, 9pts off the drop which I thought was a massive achievement. Some good signings and we're have a better season so far this year!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Chip Thompson12:52

One thing I wanted to ask, a lot of my players are unhappy with the high training work load. Should I reduce the overall training from high to medium or put their individual training onto light?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Daniel Hubner13:28

looks very good. and yes, you will naturally perform better with better players, and it's difficult to not concede in the prem :P but as in my save with hertha i finished 2nd in my second season after coming 8th in the first, so better players that fit the system definetly help

    ReplyDelete
  72. Daniel Hubner13:29

i always ignore them. you can reduce the workloads if you like but i never do that. they become better players :)

  73. Christian Albinsson14:58

    ReplyDelete

  80. Daniel Hubner15:53

sometimes some tactics just don't work, i find. do you have the right players for it? what is your team and lineup?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Stijn11:16

My team is Achilles 29 a very poor team but I managed to get some good players with right skills mentioned and needed in this tactic.
I build my whole team around this tactic with right ppm, skills, and even targeting before every match still the result is not good
Maybe this tactic doesn´t work with lower league
    teams

    ReplyDelete
  82. Daniel Hubner11:22

well, for me it does work in lower leagues too. do you have screenshots of your players?

Wow wasn't expecting that much. HUGE thanks for the uploads.

After watching my preseason matches its easy to see how this formation/shape works so well. With other formations i get far too many shots from awkward angles, but the 1-1 Poacher and AP upfront seem to create clear goal scoring opportunities in the match engine. 3 at the back works surprisingly well too, but can't help but think it would benefit from WB instead of Wingers (for defensive safety) - maybe i'll toy with that when i have a deeper squad.

    I'll report with my progress.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Daniel Hubner19:03

    yup, the AMC

    ReplyDelete
  88. Chip Thompson20:59

This is how my first season using this tactic finished! This is pretty much the same side that was in a relegation battle the year before (aside from my AMC signing. I've included a snap of him as well because he was immense in that role!)

Away form wasn't great, got thrashed routinely by the big sides. But I have to remember that we're not the greatest side in the league!

One final question, did you tinker going into your second seasons in case the AI figures the tactic out? Great work mate :)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Daniel Hubner12:43

i don't tinker with it! if you feel the opposition have it 'figured out' switch to another tactic for some games, then come back to it. great results! i'm happy it's working for you. once you get better players, the results against top sides will be better too

    ReplyDelete
  90. Chip Thompson15:04

Simply put - this really isn't working for me. I came 2nd with Everton in my first season and I have strengthened the squad, and had them training in this formation over the summer, but my results this season have been: Chelsea (lost 2-0), Swansea (lost 4-0), Fulham (lost 3-1), Crewe (won 6-0 in the league cup), Man City (lost 3-0), and Norwich (lost 5-0). I have implemented everything exactly as above and I can't work out why it's not working for me when for everyone in these comments seems to have it on fire. All my players are fine in these positions. Any ideas???

    ReplyDelete
  93. Daniel Hubner12:12

try switching to another tactic for some games, and then back to this. did you use this one for your first season? what's your line-up?

    ReplyDelete
  94. oldmonk19:01

Do you think the tactic would work if I changed the two midfielders into wingers?

    ReplyDelete
  100. mikael17:22

hi daniel not sure if u see this its a very good tactic i must say bro,i tweaked a little the instructions on some matches cause i struggle with possesion so i found out that if u change play out of defence to clear ball to the flanks the wingers have better play in game running with the ball and etc cause before they were times that the took the ball and stand there also i took off get stuck in cause my dmc did 3 penalties in a match haha, also the only problem i have is that if i man mark wingers and amc my team plays a lot worse any ideas there?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Daniel Hubner20:01

thanks for the info, i'll see the tweaks. i don't think i'll be updating the cobra before FM15 comes.

must've been a one-off with the DMC :P i like get stuck in so the press is more aggressive.

do you find that you have better results without the man marking? i find they're better, although the marking in FM14 in general is absolutely horrible anyway

lots of player instruction yes. downlaod the tactic to get the most recet version.

you dont get many shots on target, but youll notice theirs are from long range and thats the point.
