Football Manager 2014 Best Scouts - Setting up an efficient scouting network

The Importance of Good Chief Scouts

As we have learned from the staff role guide, the chief scout will be by default responsible for setting up the scouting assignments. Eventhough we recommend to setup the scouting networks assignments yourself, a good chief scout is required.

Spending some time to find a proper chief scout in FM14 is important. He will require excellent judging player ability and potential in order to be trusted. The chief scout should be used as a second opinioner, which delivers the final scout report of potential transfer targets. Personally I use him as the one who scouts next opposition, and then requires excellent tactical knowledge. But his ability as a general scout makes him able to provide accurate report cards.

As all others in the scouting network, he will influence on your managing clubs FM14 scouting knowledge, so it will be vital to find FM14 chief scouts who adds depth to it.

  1. I'm really sorry - I've been sick for 6 weeks so I'm one month behind schedule. We will discuss the issue with the tiki taka strategy when our version of the tactic are released - since I'm only onw who works on this blog 100% it takes time. I'm really sorry.

although I was wondering about a possession tactic coming from you, thought you had been trying difficulties setting one up because players continue to do crazy things that affects a possession based style.

the only thing i do not agree is pitch dimension for possession football. does it sound logical to any of you that possession football requires the same pitch size than defensive football? isn't the aim of possession football to be able to beat defensive teams? isn't playing narrow conceding an adavatage to the opponent?i, as a barça supporter with a sit on camp nou (shame day today), have listened during the last 20 years that we need wideness. i've heard, when the team's not playing great, that we need to exploit more the flanks to create spaces on the middle. i've seen lots of times (atletico did yesterday) how opps play so narrow that there's no space in the middle of the pitch for short passes to go through.
besides real life examples, i have always played possession in fm, and always playing wide and with awesome results. playing narrow to keep possession is proper of defensive teams willing to hold onto a result. using possession to attack requires the widest team one can think.

  5. Thanks for your feedback and you are absolutely right!
I've made some adjustments to the wording in that section.

The only cons with FM is that you can only select between three pitch sizes; small, medium and large.
Guess the images aren't that clear, but I tried to show a difference between defending and possession football.

After all - this is just my recommendations from how I play FM. So people are free to use the pitch size they like. But my belief is how you utilize the full pitch size from match to match, as you got many choices to play both very wide and very narrow in terms of mentality setting and team instructions. Even player instrtuctions can be of help
