FC Barcelona Squad (FM13) - 9/10:

La Liga Team Comparison Squad Report:

Goalkeepers 7/10:
The goalkeeper position may be the weakest link in the team, and could be strengthen with some younger goalkeepers with much potential, as Jose Manuel Pinto will only last for one season.

#1 Victor Valdes, 30yo, €10,5mill
Victor Valdes is one of the best goalkeepers in Spain, and has played over 338 matches in his career for Barcelona.
Victor Valdes' main strength is his reflexes and one on one abilities, maybe some good qualities if you play with a high defensive line, making the team more prone to counter attacking form the opposite team.
His main weaknesses may be his ability to communicate with the defense and his aerial abilities.

Good Youth talents:
There are none obvious youth talents, who can compete for a place in the first team from day one, or in the future.
Look at my FM13 under-18 youth talent list for transfer options.

Defenders 8/10:
The defensive area is quite good compared to other clubs, but could be better, as there are few ordinary central defenders, and they lack very much in heading and jumping, two crucial attributes in defensive set pieces and meeting powerful attackers like Wayne Rooney or Joseba Llorente.
The defensive line up may be prone to injuries on Puyol, Pique and Abidal, so it could be wise to have some backup in this position.

La Liga Team Comparison Defend: Barcelona's best defenders:
#2 Daniel Alves, 29yo, D/WBR, €18,25Mill
Alves may be one of the best right backs in FM13. His stamina and pace make him a real threat both in defence and attack. He has also good technique and dribbling abilities.
#5 Carles Puyol, 34yo, DC, €2,5Mill
Puyol is the captain of the Barcelona team and is a dedicated player who sacrifices everything for a win.
#3 Gerard Pique, 25yo, DC, €21,5Mill
Pique is the tallest player in the defence and has good skills in heading and marking.
#17 Jordi Alba, 23yo, WBL, €13,75Mill
Alba may be a better option in attack than in defence, but is chosen for his quickness and stamina. Alba is still young and is of the similar mould as Daniel Alves.

Other notable defenders:
#14 Javier Mascherano, 28yo, DC/DM, €19,75Mill
Not the most natural choice as he is quite short and has very poor skills in heading and strength, but is the natural choice when injuries.
#25 Alex Song, 24yo, MC, €15,75Mill
Ordinary a anchor man, but can play as a central defender if needed. Song is tall, have great physic and good tackling abilities.

Barcelona youth talents - Defenders:
Marc Bartra, 21yo, DC, €3,2Mill
Martin Montoya, 21yo, DR, €2,8Mill
Alex Grimaldo, 16yo, WBL, €150K

Players who could be transfer listed:
Eric Abidal, 33yo, DL, €4,3Mill
Abidal is a fairly good player regarding his age and injury proneness, but could be considered transfer listed since he has a very high wage.
Adriano, 27yo, D/WBL, €12,5Mill
Adriano is a valuable back-up player, but could be considered transfer listed as you can buy a cheaper back, like Lucas Digne, Jetro Willems or another Under-20 player.

Midfielders 10/10:
Barcelona's midfield may be one of the best in the world.
The midfielders of Barcelona obsess eminent technique, passing abilities and team work abilities compared to other teams in La Liga.
It could be hard to choose the starting line up, but my favorites for the starting line up is:

La Liga Team Comparison Midfield: Barcelona's best midfielders:
#16 Sergio Busquets, 23yo, DM, €22Mill
Busquets is a tall midfielder with great technique and stamina. He has good composure and is a great player to have in your team.
#6 Xavi, 32yo, MC, €14Mill
Xavi has one of the best passing foots in the world and his technique and decisions is top class.
#8 Andres Iniesta, 28yo, MC, €31,5Mill
As Xavi, Iniesta has good passing abilities in addition to good technique. Xavi and Andres Iniesta has excellent creativity which suits an attacking tactic.
Iniesta have poor stamina and strength making Fabregas an optional substitute.
#9 Alexis Sanchez, 28yo, AMR, €31,5Mill
Alexis Sanchez is a very speedy winger with the ability to roam into open areas without the ball. He has excellent dribbling abilities and serves Messi in a wonderful way.
#7 David Villa, 30yo, ST, €19,75Mill
Maybe not the most obvious choice as a left inside forward but he has some of the same attributes as Alexis Sanches, but his finishing abilities are better, making him a real threat.

Other notable midfielders:
Remember that Javier Mascherano and Alex song could play as defensive midfielder instead of Sergio Busquets.

#4 Cesc Fabregas, 25yo, MC, €28Mill
Cesc Fabregas is a very good player who could easily play instead of Andres Iniesta or Alexis Sanchez. Fabregas has some of the same qualities as Xavi and Iniesta but is better of the ball. He could be a real threat if you let him run from deep and move into channels in FM13.
Cristian Tello, 20yo, AMR, €3,6Mill
Tello is a fairly good player in Football Manager 2013. As he is only 20 years old he has three years of development. His finishing skills is very good.

Barcelona youth talents - Midfield:
Rafinha, 19yo, AMC, €1Mill
Javi Espinosa, 19yo, MC, €475K
Gerard Deulofeu, 18yo, AMR, €4,5Mill

Players who could be transfer listed:
As Barcelona is very well covered in the midfield, you could get rid of many players in this area, to increase the transfer budget. Who do you pick to transfer list depends on your tactic.
Javier Mascherano, 28yo, DC/DM, €19,75Mill
Mascherano is a very good player, but his height and strength could be his weakest abilities. Some crucial attributes for his best positions.
Jonathan dos Santos, 22yo, DM, €2,6Mill
A wage structure of $20K could make him hard to sell, but I guess he does not have the required quality.
Isaac Cuenca, 21yo, AMR, €4,2Mill
An average player in your squad who could be easily sold because of his young age.

Attack 10/10:
Because of Lionel Messi I would say the Barcelona attack is world class. Lionel Messi has the technique and skills to be the decisive force and could settle boring matches.
Some of the weaknesses with the team may be that they have few options in the attack beside Lionel Messi and David Villa.

La Liga Team Comparison Attack: Barcelona's best attackers:
#10 Lionel Messi, 25yo, AMC/ST, €52Mill
Arguable the best player in the world. He has eminent technique and has improved his ability to take free kicks. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo Comparison

Barcelona youth talents - Attack:
Jean-Marie Dongou, 17yo, ST, €350K
